Effect of The Sun on The Weather
Our sun is a massive source of energy, and it continuously emits its energy into space. Some of its energy enters the earth through radiation.
Solar radiation that seems to be a short wavelength and of ultraviolet type can be dangerous when it crosses all the layers of the atmosphere and enters the earth’s surface.
When the earth’s surface absorbs solar radiation, it begins to heat up, and the earth’s air also starts absorbing the radiation. It is said the particle that absorbs faster also emits at a quicker rate.
The air then emits radiation in a longer wavelength in the atmosphere that warms up the earth’s surface, and for this, the earth’s surface is warmer than the air above us.
On the first day of spring, it lies directly over the equator, and solar radiation is received vertically when it is over the equator.
But if you proceed through the north and south of the equator, the radiation comes at lower angles. The lower the angles, the less energy is received, which means less energy is needed to warm up the air.
This might seem that the equator will face hot all year, which will be cool in the polls. But all of us know that, throughout the year, the temperature is not the same.
This is because the earth rotates to its axis. Thus during summer, it is hot in the northern hemisphere, while in the southern hemisphere, it is cold as the sun’s angles are much lower.
We know that after every six months, the seasons change as the earth changes its direction about the earth. After six months Thus, the season and the weather vary because of the sun’s and the earth’s rotation.
